I have absolutely done the same thing with mason jars! Plastic is such a scourge and yet it often works well. Sigh.

Look what my friend just reminded me of today! https://realfoodwholelife.com/meal-prep-planning/mason-jar-storage-tips/

Are you telling me that if I had refrigerated the broth first, I wouldn't have lost 6 half-gallon Mason jars???!!!! They were room temperature, but not chilled.

I'm going to try this again, but with just one jar. My husband's going to kill me anyway (that is hyperbole in case anyone's worried; he'll just raise his eyebrows at me).

Sometimes it seems impossible to live appropriately. Can you freeze in plastic containers that are not disposable but rather re-useable? The hand/brain thing is interesting. One of my daughter’s doctors told me that surgeons in training — young ones — do not have the necessary hand/finger coordination abilities necessary for surgery, probably due to the lack of hand skills previously developed in preschool — cutting, coloring, hammering, etc. So much skill with computers, video controllers, touch pads, screens, etc. There’s a metaphor here ...

Plastic containers is a good idea. I've tried to avoid them because of the whole leeching thing, but using the bags is probably worse. And I freeze a lot of things! I wish there were more obvious answers, especially for liquids.

That is fascinating about the surgeons. That reminds me of a bit in Kim Stanley Robinson's book New York 2140 where a woman is watching two of her younger colleagues try to play pool and they can't really because their learning years didn't involve a lot of three-dimensional reality.

Stuart Brown's work on play is relevant here. I remember reading in his book that places like the Jet-Propulsion Laboratory at NASA won't hire people who haven't worked with their hands because they need to be able to think and imagine three-dimensionally. He has a TED talk about play that's more general: https://www.ted.com/talks/stuart_brown_play_is_more_than_just_fun?language=en

Food 52 (www.food52.com) has some great reusable non-BPA containers that are also freezable and microwaveable. They're a bit costly, but they last for years and years. I pretty much use them exclusively.

I just discovered that site this year! So much good stuff on there. Thanks for the tip. Sounds like they're worth investing in.
