I've gotten behind lately on all sorts of reading and this was just the sort of thing I have been missing. Your references at the end are ALWAYS a treasure trove. Thanks!

Have to say writing them can be an adventure all on its own! Choosing what to include and what to say about them ... it's fun :)

Thank you, Antonia, for your words and presence. Just what I needed today. You inspired me directly: https://edifiedlistener.blog/2022/05/04/women-writing-nature/

Can't tell you how much that means to me, and how much that poem hits home. It's so true and yet I never thought about it that way.

Thank you for reminding me of the All My Relations podcast. I am a horrible forgetter-of-podcasts.

I thought you might relate to those two episodes in particular! Great interviews and a lot of information.

1. I’m honored that I’m your Gerda Lerner pusher. 2. Still mad at all the publishers who said no. 3. So mine isn’t the only household dominated by (very complex!) Wings of Fire discussion at the dinner table?

I’m really grateful for the Gerda Lerner tip! And don’t be mad — there is nothing we can do about some situations, and publishers have their metrics and reasoning and we all just have to muddle through.

Our walk to school today was 30 solid minutes of Wings of Fire. It’s such a complex and involved society! I thought Warrior Cats was an intense world to get to know but the dragons are so much more. Silkwings are much more oppressed than I’d realized, and I didn’t know about the queen who had to jump into lava to escape the ice curse.

I said “wait, really??” like three times when my son first explained the Silkwings situation to me

Me too! I only read the very first book because honestly I didn’t like it nearly as much as the Warrior Cats series. But I’ve been thinking it’s the kind of story that could grow on me. (Plus Tui Sutherland is one of the 5 authors who comprises the Warrior Cats ‘author’ Erin Hunter so maybe I should trust her more.)

Also if your kids like Wings of Fire they might like Whitefish author Jess Owens’s series about gryffons. They’re self-published but I honestly think the story is better. Well, at least I liked it more: http://www.jessowen.com/#menu
